ICPC is overseen by its steering committee under a charter first adopted in April 2006. The committee represents ICPC to the IEEE Computer Society, approves proposals for future editions, appoints general and program chairs, and hears complaints and appeals.

How the committee works

The committee has six elected members who choose a chair from among themselves. At least two seats are open for election at every ICPC. Anyone who has authored an accepted paper, served on the program committee or steering committee in the last five years, chaired the conference in the last ten years, or is registered for the current conference may vote. Nominations are taken at the open steering committee meeting, and write-in candidates are welcome.

Decisions are made by majority vote with at least four votes cast. Members follow a code of ethics that asks for openness, prompt responses, disclosure of conflicts of interest, and the recognition that they are caretakers of ICPC rather than its owners.
